BONNY BABIES

Litters vary in size in our experience between 1 and 5 - this is one of our larger litters of golden satin cavies (11k) though larger litters are heard of. (The satin or shine in their coat isn't immediately obvious in new born babies ). The patching of Tortoise & White cavies seems very unpredictable, with no two babies in the same litter having the same markings - as in this litter of 5 (18k) . They seldom stray far from their mother as you can see here (17k). This is a litter of very young rex babies with their mom.

On one occasion the mother of golden cavies (12k) died following birth, but they were successfully hand reared, though their coats lacked their mother's attention.
