CANNY CAVIES Visitors Book

hi, I like your site, it helped me out alot since i know nothing about pigs and illnesses.Someone left a guinea pig at the front door a few days ago. He looks healthy but i know nothing about him. He had a broken claw, the rest are very long. His ear is missing a bit of fur but I cant see any flees or parasite. I was wondering if i should spend money at the vet and take a chance that he will die or get him put down? Please e-mail me asap!!

I'm looking for a very young female for him and would like to get some other species like the Alpaca or Texels or the long curly haired species. If anybody has any feedback please let me know. A 100% site. Please do not ever remove Gurney's advice section, as it must always be useful to someone, all the time, and that includes me! Can there be more pictures of animals at lots of different shows, to see whether I want to show my pigs? I want to show my Abbys. Do they have to be pedigree? Please add lots of cavy noises. Yours sincerely, Ms L Kelly.

Iam the mother of Becky ,she is not an irrisponsible breeder, but a child who does not allways think before she speaks As a mother I try to support Becky in her chosen interest and hobby .As an adult I would not allow a daughter of mine to breed her animals willy nilly All her sows are pregnant only when they are purposly put with a boar. Unfortunatly I did not see Beckies advert untill it had been dispatched or I would not have given my permission, and there is no way to retrieve it once sent.Hope this lays to rest any fears among the good work done by so many, that some irrisponsible people do cause.

Great Site (love the wheek wheek!!) Just one comment about the visitors book though: there are enough unwanted, unloved piggies out there that need homes without irresponsible breeders offering their 'services' to anyone and everyone. Surely people keep guinea pigs because they love them - showing and breeding is secondary????? If you want to get a guinea pig, find out if you can rescue one first - if you want to show guinea pigs, there is always a 'mixed breed' slot - every guinea pig is gorgeous and cute, and unfortunately it is the fault of 'experienced breeders' that so many deformed guinea pigs are born! Like no eyes, no vitals etc. Please think before you buy! Please rescue before you buy!

I have 2 sows who seem to coat chew. Put lovely boar with long coat in and within 2 days it was chewed off. Looks like someone has razored it. What could this be.

You have a nice setup page for guinea pigs. I am a first time owner of two very bright guinea pigs, Oscar and Roxy. They said to say Hello for them to all the others. Keep up the good work!

A the moment I have 72 guinea-pigs (cavies) the reason I have so many is because I breed and show them.I have a stud of both purebreeds and pets. The pure breeds I have are Black himalayans, abysinians, self lilacs, self pink eyed goldens, satins in buff, ivory and cream and I have just started breeding satin himalayans. If any-one wants any information/advice/talk cavy or buy a guinea-pig/s (i always have some for sale) then please e-mail me.

Before you breed from your guinea pig, please stop and remeber the huge nunbers of unwanted and abandoned piggies sitting in rescue shelters around the world. Are you sure yours won't end up there? PLEASE REMEMBER! If you ever are going to buy a pet,why don't you get it from a shelter? There are 100's of guinea pigs in shelters that need homes, and most of all needs a loving owner. So instead of getting your pet from a pet shop, think twice, and go for the shelter. Thank you

I adopted a cavy from the animal shelter. knowing they are sociable animals, I went out and bought a young one for a friend. When I introduced them to each other, the older one (Jewel) started acting strange and her behind was all wet. I soon discovered the "friend" was a boy! Now what do I do? How often will my sow be able to conceve? Can I keep them together if she is pregnant? How about when the little ones are born...can the male be in the hutch? This wasn't supposed to happen! Help!

Brennan Bogner, our grandson, is turning nine years old on March 15. He doesn't know it yet, but his dream is coming true on his birthday. His parents are taking him shopping so that he can select the guinea pig he wants. This is all he has asked for his birthday - he wants nothing more. Is there anything he needs to know about the care of the guinea pig?
