Cavy Shows thru the Year - January to June |
| Practically every weekend all year round there will be at least one cavy show taking place in the UK. Many of the keen cavy fanciers travel from one end of the country to the other to exhibit, particularly to the ‘prestige’ events, some of which are mentioned below. Here we see the judge carefully examining a class of Peruvian cavies whilst their owners look on. For more information on when and where shows are held in the UK: Southern Cavy Club |

| THE BRADFORD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - Mid January each year at Doncaster Racecourse. Don't miss it ! | |
| Mrs Astrid Allen's journey from Guernsey, Channel Islands to Doncaster for the Bradford Championship Cavy Show was well worth while - her English Crested Sow was awarded 'Best in Show' at the UK's Premier Cavy Show event of the year. Approximately 820 cavies competed. (For the un-initiated, an English Crested has a crest in the same colour as the body, an American Crested has a crest in a contrasting colour, usually white) |

The 1998 Show was won by this magnificent Peruvian boar named 'Ambrose' owned by Mrs Melanie Mayoh of Denbighshire, North Wales In 1999 this attractive Harlequin cavy was showing off its finer points whilst in this picture a judge examines a group of self blacks. |

| This ‘Show of Shows’ takes place over two days in January at (confusingly) Doncaster Racecourse, home of the famous St Leger horse race. At past shows there have been excellent showings of our favourite ‘Tortoise & White’ (22k) breed, and there were also some interesting long-haired cavies to be seen, including a very bored looking (though expressive) Coronet shown above and this beautifully coated sheltie (10k), and a similar expression from Chris Fort's Champion Coronet Cavy 'Summer'. There are usually a majority of teenage girls preparing the long haired breeds for the show bench, but this isn't always the case (17k) and this lady (15k) certainly knew what to do with the brushes ! Amongst the ‘Rare Breeds’ was this well groomed Merino. (14k) One of the more challenging task for judges must be to judge between different breeds, and a group are being judged here. (21k) | |
| The next big show in the north of England is the Yorkshire Championship Show held each year at Saltaire, near Bradford in mid - March. In 1999 Melanie Mayoh came out on top with her 5-8 month Peruvian (see right) and amongst other breeds to be seen was this self chocolate. We can see judges in action carefully examining classes of self whites (16k), (lots of competition here also) Rex (24k) ( similar to the Teddy breed), Self creams (14k), (the right shade of cream is most important !) and again ‘The Heartbreak Breed’ - Tortoise & Whites. Amongst the rarer breeds this well groomed Alpaca cavy waited to be judged. At the 1998 show, that name cropped up again, where Chris Fort came out on top again with Best in Show for her SheltieMelody, whilst amongst the other cavies to catch the eye were a hansome looking group of silver agoutis, Vic Bailey's winning well marked dutch, and this group of well behaved himalayans. | YORKSHIRE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW MARCH![]() |

HEXHAM CAVY & RABBIT SHOW Held at The Northumberland County Agricultural Show 26th May 1997 |
| Rachel Sibley's 5/8 months Self Black Boar which won the 'Best Juvenile' entry award. Double congratulations to these cavies and their owners (both from Cramlington in Northumberland) who won their awards under the expert eye of the judge who has been described as 'The most successful Self Black breeder in history' - Mr Graham Phillips. Mr Phillips also excels in self whites, and won the Best in Show at the top UK show of the year (The Bradford Championship Show) for a record 12th time in 1997 The Winking Cavy Store was there too! | |
| WETHERBY SHOW, NORTH YORKSHIRE 21st JUNE 1997 | Another popular show in Yorkshire is held in mid June each year at the Wetherby Agricultural Show, where the Tortoise & White Cavy Club hold a special show (30k), but if you get bored, you can also see some beautiful shire horses and their foals, cattle, sheep, goats, dogs and various other animals and amusements. |
