Inflammation is a sign that the body's defence mechanism is doing it's job. White blood cells rush to the area inflamed, help to destroy invading microbes and also in the repair of damaged tissue. Another thing inflammation does when there is an injury to a limb, say, and particularly to the joint of one, is prevent it from being moved around which could cause more damage.
There are times when it is appropriate that anti-inflammatory drugs should be used such as in auto-immune problems such as arthritis, see Aging but in the main leave nature to it's work.
The point I am trying to make is though inflammation can be very alarming, and if there is any thing questionable about it it should be checked, it is more often than not a good sign.
Quiet ! I am chairing this meeting.
